Dear Alumni, Greetings to you! I believe this email will find you in good cheer and confidence. I write to you at a significant moment that demands a communication to all of you. It has been 34 momentous years for KCT since that landmark year of 1984, and certainly there has been no looking back for our great institution. Today KCT is among the pioneering institutions in the state and among the top 100 in the country. We have been working in a spirited and enterprising manner for the last few years to get ready for more significant times that lie ahead for the potential we possess. The Kumaraguru campus today has over 6000 students, 700 staff and over 23000 alumni. Since out foundation there has been a steady growth with new departments and growth within them. The KCT Business School was enhanced in 2012 and is today among the best in the region. In 2014, we established the Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture in Sakthi Nagar, Erode district and it is today emerging to be among the best agriculture colleges in the state. All this has been possible fundamentally due to the vision and wishes of our revered and illustrious founder Ayya, Dr. N. Mahalingam. It was his dream and aspiration to establish a modern, nationally impacting, internationally relevant technical institution in Coimbatore that will make a mark through thousands of students and socially relevant research. It is the wish of our founder to make Kumaraguru into a premier a holistic and interdisciplinary university. For me personally this has one of the most significant work assignments personally and professionally, as I have been able to learn, dream, plan and impact through numerable ways with the belief and trust of thousands of staff, students, alumni and well wishers. In this pursuit, I am delighted to convey to you that we will be establishing KCLAS – Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the Kumaraguru campus in the coming academic year. KCLAS (pronounced as “class”) will be affiliated to the nationally 13th ranked Bharathiar University in Coimbatore. We begin with 4 programmes: Bachelor of Commerce – Professional Accounting (B.Com PA), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Science Visual Communication (VisCom) and Bachelor of Arts English Literature. We had applied 3 years ago and due to some complexities this was not possible and now, with all the legal and affiliation work and process over, we are ready to embark on yet another journey to create an impact back by the legacy and inspired by the vision. We begin with the vision and the opportunity to bring about an interdisciplinary and multi domain leaning, research and social impact possibilities. This is indeed a landmark moment for all of us, as it is in this year that Kumaraguru is establishing yet another institution in the campus, and each one of us should feel as if we are creating a new tomorrow for thousands of students in the future. The beginning of anything is historic and inspiring, and it is time for us to feel like creators, mentors and builders of a new future. Let us with pride usher in the new institution with all our good wishes and good will. Very soon interdisciplinary study, research and impact will be possible, and we should aspire greater social impact. KCLAS will have distinct features, culture, process and learning aspirations. KCLAS EDGE will be a feature where the learner will be able to learn in a deep manner, be exposed to a broad spectrum and have an ecosystem that will aid personal transformation. (More information is there is the attached poster and also in www.kclas.ac.in) We have been recruiting quality faculty, who will have the expertise and aspiration to mould young minds. The admission process will largely consider competencies along with the marks obtained by the student, through an assessment test. Dr Vijila Kennedy, who was the Director of KCT Business School, will be the Principal of KCLAS. And we are in the process of curating an excellent board of advisors and experts to build this new effort into one that will be significant. KCLAS will have scholarships in many categories to bring in diversity and inclusivity. The admission process has started and we are keen to bring in a number of students from other states and countries as the years progress. Alumni of any institution are a significant part of the past and an important partner for the future, and I felt it is essential to write to you and involve you in this next step in your campus. I am personally buoyant and spirited that the time has come to add a whole new dimension and many more domains into the Kumaraguru campus.
