ENGINEERING MATERIALS IN MEDICINE - One credit course

A six-day one-credit course on ENGINEERING MATERIALS IN MEDICINE was organized by Kumaraguru College of Technology, jointly with Anna University, Chennai and in collaboration with the National University of Singapore and Singapore Eye Research Institute. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has launched a new scheme, named as, Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) with a view to facilitating global research networks between a higher educational institution in India with global universities. The module outline includes Introduction to Biomaterials & Biocompatibility, Human Body, Brain and Mind, Classes of biomaterials, Medical devises Regulations & Standards; Sterilization, 3D Printing of Medical Devices, Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, Controlled Drug Delivery Coatings, Individual Students projects... Learning Outcomes *Develop a strong base in materials science and engineering which is of biomedical relevance *Appreciate the processing-structure-property relationship of biomaterials *Enhance the awareness of the complex multi-disciplinary nature of the biomaterials field *Ability to recommend appropriate materials for any given biomedical applications *Ability to design appropriate processing routes for various biomaterials *Ability to comprehend the techniques of writing a good research report
